The Old City offers creative arts therapy, writing and consultation to individuals and teams in Melbourne’s health and welfare sector. It’s a place where ideas come alive though art and writing and can be turned into action through evidence based and well supported clinical practice.

Reflective Practice for Professionals

Harness the power of art to reflect on your current work and unpack ethical dilemmas and values conflicts.  Gently challenge patterns and playfully consider alternatives.  Regular or one off sessions in my Footscray art making space.

Trauma Informed Clinical Supervision

Clinical supervision is a formal process for professional support. It encompasses reflective practice, professional development, exploration of ethical issues, clinical issues, caseload and staff interpersonal issues. 

Supervision provides a safe and confidential environment to build both competence and confidence and better know yourself and your unique strengths.

Available for Arts Therapists, Social Worker, Youth Workers & AOD Workers seeing clients who experience AOD use, mental health concerns and trauma. Available to Nurses working with AOD presentations.

All individual sessions are offered via zoom until further notice. Please email to express interest in a session.

Group Sessions

Basket Weaving for Collective Care 

This is a peer supervision group based around the shared activity of learning to weave. 

This group is suitable for health and welfare professionals in their first role or those a couple of years into their career. This group allows for cross sector and cross disciplinary collaboration in a safe and creative space. All materials supplied.

Examples of discussion topics:

  • Debriefing your week / day / month

  • Professional networking and mutual support

  • Engaging clients and overcoming barriers to engagement

  • The ‘Imposter Complex’

  • Working with co-workers who seem to have a different values system to you

  • Policy versus practice

  • Working with mental health presentations

  • Working with people who use alcohol and other drugs

  • Assessing risk

Senior Basket Weaving Group

This is a peer supervision group based around the shared activity of learning to weave.

This group is suitable for senior practitioners, managers and team leaders in health and welfare roles. This group allows for cross sector and cross disciplinary collaboration in a safe and creative space.

Examples of discussion topics:

  • Debriefing your week / day / month

  • Working in traumatised systems

  • Transference / countertransference in complex trauma presentations

  • Addressing misogyny in health / welfare systems

  • Networking, dreaming and scheming

  • Management of teams and supervision of staff

  • Recovery from burnout and psychological injury

  • Professional development opportunities

  • Self compassion
