About Cara Munro

Cara Munro is an Arts Therapist, Registered Nurse, Clinical Supervisor, Educator and award-winning Writer.

With almost 20 years’ experience in the health and welfare sector, she has worked directly in some of the most challenging contexts in her industry. From running arts programs for women prisoners in the Dame Phyllis Frost Center to nursing young people in Victoria’s adolescent drug and alcohol withdrawal units and Melbourne’s Royal Children’s Hospital. She has taught nursing, social work, alcohol and other drugs and arts therapy to students and professionals at the MIECAT Institute, Latrobe University, RMIT, VACCHO and through YSAS’s Center for Youth AOD Practice Development.

Cara managed, Victoria’s Youth Drug and Alcohol Advice service, supporting the Victorian drug and alcohol sector through advice, secondary consultation and development of the world first YoDAA Model of integrated support. YoDAA was awarded the 2014 Victorian Health Promotion Award for reduction of harm from alcohol use and published their experience of developing the YoDAA online model for integrated AOD support in 2018.

Cara has published widely and has been awarded the Margaret Dooley award for social justice writing. Most recently she has focused her writing efforts on developing clinical and practice resources for YSAS, the Royal Children’s Hospital, Berry Street, RMIT, VACCHO and Department of Health and Human Services.

She continues to teach postgraduate students at the MIECAT institute for Experiential and Creative Arts Therapy and train and support others in the sector through reflective practice, clinical supervision, mentorship and development of clinical resources.

Cara holds nationally recognised qualifications in Training and Assessment, is registered with Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA) and a member of the Australian Clinical Supervisors Association (ACSA).
